This Homemade Christmas Tree Pull-Apart Bread is easy to make using a few simple ingredients you probably have in your kitchen. The homemade dough comes together in minutes and requires no rise time. So much tastier than store-bought pizza dough that’s loaded with highly processed ingredients. A delicious and festive addition to your holiday appetizer table!
Appetizers are my JAM! This year, I thought it would be fun to do a December Holiday Appetizer Series. I am posting quick and easy appetizer recipes all month long to help with your gatherings, big or small. So far the series includes Goat Cheese and Sun-Dried Tomato Stuffed Mushrooms and a Festive Olive Wreath. This week I have a Homemade Christmas Tree Pull-Apart Bread.
You may have seen Christmas tree pull-apart bread appetizers on Pinterest. They are typically made with store-bought pizza dough that contains refined wheat and oils, and other unwanted additives. Since we aren’t about those ingredients here at SGM, I used my bagel dough recipe to create the dough, and the results were amazing! So simple, delish, and made with 4 simple ingredients… whole wheat flour, Greek yogurt, baking powder, and salt.
Tammy’s Tips for Homemade Christmas Tree Pull-Apart Bread
Greek Yogurt – Regular yogurt does not work for this dough. It is too wet and will result in a sticky mess. Stonyfield Greek Yogurt is my favorite for this recipe. Total Fage and Simple Truth Greek Yogurt also work. Greek Gods does not work well at all. If your dough is too sticky, add more flour. If it is too dry, add more yogurt.
Marinara Sauce – I used my Simply Amazing Marinara Sauce to serve with the bread. I always have some on hand in my freezer. You could use a good quality jar of pizza sauce. This would also be delish with pesto.
Cheese – I did not use any cheese in this recipe, but you could sprinkle it with mozzarella and/or Parmesan.
Roasted Red Pepper – I used roasted red pepper that I had left from the olive wreath appetizer to create little ornaments. Raw red pepper would also work.
