This recipe for homemade cocktail sauce is easy to make and tastes so much better than store-bought! It has no refined sugar or high-fructose corn syrup and is made with fresh horseradish root. Perfect for serving with shrimp cocktail at your next party!
Shrimp cocktail is one of my favorite party hors d’oeuvres. But, I have found that store-bought cocktail sauce often has refined sugar, high fructose corn syrup, caramel color, and other unwanted ingredients. Many homemade versions call for ketchup and prepared horseradish which may also contain a list of highly processed ingredients.
I’ve been experimenting and have come up with my own clean cocktail sauce which includes fresh horseradish root, and instead of ketchup, I used crushed tomatoes and tomato paste. I had several taste testers and they all gave it a two thumbs up!
Shrimp cocktail is always a crowd-pleaser and so incredibly easy to put together! I especially love serving it in individual cocktail glasses. They are so fun and fancy. Even the plastic ones I purchase from Dollar Tree look amazing.
One trick I have come up with is to fill the stem of the glass with leftover tomato sauce so I don’t waste the cocktail sauce. You could use ketchup or anything red that you have on hand because it just sits in the stem of the glass and doesn’t get eaten. (This recipe makes enough for 4 individual servings when the stems are filled with tomato sauce or ketchup.)
Your guests will be impressed with your beautiful presentation and your delicious homemade cocktail sauce!
