Hosting a Fourth of July party? Looking for some table inspiration? Here is a super cute and easy Star Spangled Tablescape that can be put together for under $20 with a few items from Dollar Tree and Hobby Lobby. Perfect for any patriotic celebration!
Seasonal Scapes Under $20
Welcome to my new series Seasonal Scapes Under $20. If you read my About Page, you saw that I am obsessed with dishes and tablescapes. Rather than show you tablescapes with dishes and decor that I have purchased over the years, I thought that it would be fun and more practical to create new tablescapes anyone can easily put together. The best part is that it will cost under $20 with seasonal items I find at discount stores like Dollar Tree, Hobby Lobby, and Michaels.
My Vision
When we put our pool in 3 years ago, I had this vision of a beautifully set farm table on the patio in front of the pool where we would sit and have fabulous summer dinners with our family and friends.
My realistic husband did not share this vision. He saw our dinner guests sweltering in the Texas heat surrounded by annoying flies. We agreed that we would live with the space for a year before we purchased my beautiful farm table. We already had plenty of patio furniture including a patio table that was in great condition.
After multiple outside parties, we decided that Mr. Realistic was correct. Using that space for a big farm table didn’t make sense. Texas is too hot and we hosted way more informal pool and sports parties than we did sit down dinner parties. We replaced our big rectangular patio table with a fire pit that doubles as a table and use it way more than we ever used our big table.
My vision came back when I came up with this new seasonal tablescape series idea. A Fourth of July tablescape is no fun indoors! Of course all of my great ideas involve my husband moving furniture around. (You can read about our other furniture adventures in my Thanksgiving Tablescape post and my Freshen Up Your Home post.)
For this extraordinary idea, all of our patio furniture had to be moved and the kitchen table had to be taken apart (it would not fit through the door), brought outside, and put back together again. I have the best hubby ever!!!
Star Spangled Tablescape
I think it was totally worth the effort! We may have to do this more often. 🙂
Since this is an outdoor patriotic tablescape, I kept it simple and informal. The felt place mats, red mason jars, straws, and felt star table banner were from Dollar Tree. I knew the banner would make the perfect table runner especially when I found the red mason jars. The pinwheels and wooden firecrackers were from Hobby Lobby.
After I put it all together, I realized I forgot about the flowers. Normally I like to purchase flowers from Trader Joe’s but it’s a little out of the way and I was just there last week so I ran to Kroger instead.
I know a sit down dinner may not be practical if you are hosting a big Fourth of July bbq. If that is the case, you could skip the place mats and cloth napkins and just do the centerpiece. The wooden firecrackers would be super cute standing up in the center of the table around the mason jars.
The Food and Fun
On Saturday, when I was getting everything together for the table, I decided it was silly not to have friends over for a little early 4th of July celebration. Especially since I was finally going to have a table set in front of the pool. So Saturday afternoon, I invited a few friends to come over for a pool party and bbq on Sunday.
We kept the menu simple so we could enjoy some fun in the sun with our guests! It included beer can chicken, corn on the cob, and a non mayo potato salad. Easy and healthy!
Tablescape Total:
Hobby Lobby: Wooden Firecrackers ( 1 package of 8) – $2.09 Pinwheels (2 packages of 2) – $2.78
